South Carolina vs Tennessee | Sunday, 3 p.m. (ESPNU)

| Game Notes | Road To Orange Beach

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 14 South Carolina hosts SEC East rival Tennessee in a game nationally televised by ESPNU at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Beth Mowins and Cat Whitehill will make the call in that match, the same duo that called South Carolina’s SEC Tournament title victory against LSU last season.

ON THE HORIZON
South Carolina travels to Arkansas for a Thursday night match with the Razorbacks before hosting LSU next Sunday in another game televised nationally by ESPNU. The game between the Gamecocks and Tigers will kickoff at 1 p.m. (a change from the previous 3 p.m. start).

THE ROAD TO ORANGE BEACH
South Carolina leads the SEC at 5-1-1 with 16 points, taking the top spot over Florida (5-1-1) due to tiebreakers. A Gamecock victory coupled with an Arkansas tie or loss will clinch a spot for the Gamecocks to their fifth consecutive SEC Tournament. The conference tournament is played at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex in Orange Beach, Ala., and takes the top eight teams in the standings. A South Carolina win along with an Arkansas tie or loss will make it mathematically impossible for the Gamecocks to finish in the bottom four of the league, thus clinching a berth in the tournament.

SCOUTING TENNESSEE
Tennessee brings a 4-2-1 conference record into Sunday’s match after dropping a 4-2 decision at Florida Friday night. The Lady Vols struggled in the early going of the season with three top 25 teams in the opening five matches, but the team has rebounded in SEC action and sits fourth in the conference standings with 13 points. Chelsea Hatcher and Emily Dowd lead the team with six goals as Hatcher is the team leader at 15 points and Dowd second at 13 points. A bevy of players have also contributed at least two goals. Redshirt senior Molly Baird sports a 1.77 goals against average with three shutouts.

SUNDAY MADNESS
South Carolina has performed at a perfect level on Sunday afternoon matches, traditionally the toughest day of the week after playing a Friday game. The Gamecocks, 7-0-1 in Sunday matches this year, have outscored opponents 22-3 on Sundays with the lone blemishes coming in a 1-1 tie against Arizona State, a 5-1 win at Kentucky and a 2-1 win at Alabama. Carolina has scored 14 goals in SEC Sunday matches this year. For the record, that means 22 of Carolina’s 32 goals have come on Sundays.

JACOBS QUESTIONABLE
South Carolina seinor forward Brooke Jacobs is questionable with a hamstring injury suffered against Alabama. The senior missed Friday’s 1-0 loss to Georgia with sophomore Ali Glemser earning her first career start. Jacobs has only missed two games since the 2008 season – a span of 62 games for Carolina – with the Gamecocks dropping both of those contests by identical 1-0 score. Both missed games were due to leg injuries (Western Carolina, Sept. 21, 2008).

GAMECOCKS ON TV
South Carolina will appear on a TV a minimum of five times in 2010 with three of those games occuring on national TV, marking the fourth consecutive season that Carolina will play in front of a national audience. Five of Carolina’s six SEC home games will be televised, beginning with the 3-0 win against Ole Miss (FSC) and 7-0 win against Mississippi State on CSS (7-0). The Florida game will be shown on SUN Sports. The Tennessee and LSU matches will both be on ESPNU.

THE 10-10-30 CLUB
Junior Kayla Grimsley is one goal and one assist shy of becoming the first Gamecock to join the 10-10-30 club. Grimsley has nine goals and nine assists for 27 points this season, numbers that pushes her to the top of the SEC list in goals, assists, points and game winning goals (4). In just her third season, Grimsley is already No. 2 in the South Carolina record books for career goals (30), assists (22) and points (83).
