Columbia, S.C. – The ninth-ranked Gamecocks fell to No. 14 Furman, 1-0, today at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium in Columbia, S.C. South Carolina falls to 9-5-1, while Furman improves to 12-2-1.

Furman jumped on the board first when Andy Kidd and Ricardo Clark connected for the Paladins’ lone goal of the match at 24:58. Clark knocked in Kidd’s cross from the middle of the box to give Furman a 1-0 lead. Gamecock goalkeeper Michael Bachmeyer managed to tip the ball before it reached the back of the net.

In the second half, South Carolina dominated play, outshooting the Paladins 9-2.

“It was a game of two completely different halves,” commented Head Coach Mark Berson “Furman played sharp in the first half and had us on our heels. In the second half we had them on their heels.”

Bachmeyer tallied five saves, while Furman goalkeeper Alex Maslow posted five saves. South Carolina outshot the Paladins 14-11.

South Carolina heads to Charleston, S.C. for its final tournament of the year. The Gamecocks play No. 15 Coastal Carolina on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5:00 p.m. USC faces Winthrop for the second match of the tournament on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. The Gamecocks lead the series between the Chanticleers 2-1-1 and remain undefeated against the Winthrop Eagles.
