COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Athletic Department and the men’s golf program mourn the passing of Gamecock golf letterman David DuPre, who died Sunday at the age of 57.

DuPre competed for the Gamecocks from 1972-73 and again from 1975-76, lettering four years for Carolina. He won the South Carolina Intercollegiate title during his days with the Gamecock program and had a stellar amateur career that included four South Carolina state amateur titles and an appearance in the 1982 U.S. Open.

“The Gamecock athletic family has certainly lost one of its finest,” South Carolina director of golf Puggy Blackmon said. “David was not only a fine player but also a great ambassador for Carolina golf. He will be sorely missed by the South Carolina golf community.”

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Memorials are suggested to the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.
