COLUMBIA, S.C. – Football’s Stephen Garcia and women’s soccer’s Kayla Grimsley have been named AgSouth Athletes of the Week.
Garcia, a 6-2, 227-pounder from Lutz, Fla., threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns as 19th-ranked South Carolina recorded a 35-21 win over top-ranked Alabama. Garcia completed 17-of-20 passes and had scoring tosses of nine, 26 and 15 yards for the Gamecocks, who improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.
Grimsley had her strongest career SEC weekend with two goals in each of Carolina’s road victories (Auburn, Alabama) to propel South Carolina to the top of the SEC ladder. Grimsley scored Carolina’s first two goals against Auburn with strong finishes in the ’18 before performing one of the most difficult feats in soccer by knocking in two penalty kicks against Alabama, giving the junior two game-winning goals on the weekend.
