COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (8-5-2, 3-2-1 C-USA) is set to host Memphis (3-10-1, 0-5-1 C-USA) in the final regular season home match of the 2010 campaign on Sunday at Stone Stadium. The match, which is set to begin at 1 p.m., will serve as Senior Day for South Carolina’s seven seniors, which includes Sam Arthur, Blake Brettschneider, Mike Lindsay, Jimmy Maurer, Evan O’Dell, Will Traynor and Mark Wiltse.
South Carolina enters the match currently tied for fourth place in the Conference USA race with 10 points on a 3-2-1 record in league play. The Gamecocks host Memphis on Sunday before traveling to Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 7, for the final regular season contest of the season. The top six teams at the conclusion of league play will advance to the C-USA Tournament, hosted by Memphis, Nov. 10-14.
Leading the Gamecocks are freshman midfielder Bradlee Baladez and Traynor with five goals each, while Brettschneider has contributed four goals and six assists. Junior midfielder Stephen Morrissey collected his first-career game-winning goal in South Carolina’s 1-0 win over FIU earlier this week. Maurer, who currently ranks second all-time in South Carolina history with 26 career shutouts, owns a 1.17 goals against average on the year, while he has collected 54 saves.
Memphis is led by junior defender Thomas Shannon and junior forward Parker Duncan with three goals each, while Shannon, who also has three assists, paces the team with nine points. Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Leedle has played the majority of time in net for the Tigers, however freshman goalkeeper Martin Hunter has started three matches, including Memphis’ most recent contest at Missouri State.
