Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team’s defense is ranked in the top 25 for the eighth-consecutive week according to the NCAA statistic rankings released today. The Gamecocks (9-5-1) are averaging 0.71 goals against average, making them the 12th stingiest defense in the county.
Anchoring the defense is senior goalkeeper Michael Bachmeyer who is currently ranked 13th in NCAA Division I soccer. Just last week defender Robert Rosenberg was named to College Soccer News’ Team of the Week for his efforts. Rosenberg scored the game-winning goal against Charlotte.
Also released today were the NSCAA/adidas rankings which listed South Carolina in a tie for 19th. In the Soccer Times and College Soccer News polls, the Gamecocks were ranked 20th, while Soccer America placed USC in 21st.
South Carolina heads to Charleston, S.C. for its final tournament of the year. The Gamecocks play No. 13 Coastal Carolina (14-0-1) on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5:00 p.m. USC faces Winthrop for the second match of the tournament on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. The Gamecocks lead the series between the Chanticleers 2-1-1 and remain undefeated against the Winthrop Eagles.
