COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman Liz Locke has been named the SEC Cross Country Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Locke was recognized after her performance at the Minnesota Griak Invitational.
Locke finished as South Carolina’s number three in her first collegiate 6K race. The time of 23:10 was a collegiate best and is the fastest time run by a freshman in her 6K collegiate debut since Beatrice Biwott’s run at the 2008 Pre-Nationals. Coincidentally, Biwott was South Carolina’s last Freshman of the Week selection after her 2008 Pre-Nationals race.
South Carolina will compete at the Charlotte Invitational next Friday afternoon at McAlpine Park. The race will run at 4 p.m.
