COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina rising junior Kayla Grimsley earned her fourth call from the United States Soccer Federation this summer as the striker has been invited to participate in the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team training camp at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., from June 13-19.
Grimsley, who recently completed three training camps with the U.S. U-20 National Team, is among 24 players selected to the U-23 training camp by coach Bill Irwin. He will narrow the squad to 18 players at end of the training camp. Those 18 will represent the U.S. at the 2010 Four Nations Tournament taking place in Leicester, England from July 7-12.
The U.S. team will leave for Europe on July 3 and face the England U-23s on July 7, the Norway U-23s on July 9 and the Sweden U-23s on July 12.
Grimsley had one of the top all-around performances in Gamecock history as a sophomore in the 2009 season. A first-team All-SEC selection, she became just the fifth player at South Carolina to hit double-digit goals in a season and finished with 13 goals and seven assists for 33 points. She finished first in the SEC in goals, second in points and fifth in assists, while coming just one point short of setting the South Carolina single-season record. Grimsley started the season with a record nine-match scoring streak and led the team to its first SEC Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Round of 16.
