COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina women’s soccer team (4-0-2) set a team record for goals scored in game in Wed. night’s 12-0 win over S.C. State. Freshman Ashley Gosnell and sophomore Amy Caddies each scored twice for USC in the victory.
“It was important for us to work on our performance and maintain a high level of play,” said USC head coach Shelley Smith. “It was our goal not to drop the level of play.” Carolina scored early at 4:47 when Gosnell opened up the match with a goal off an assist by Lydia Bienias and Allison Jarrow. USC also got first half goals from Melinda Carter, Ashley Williams, Kelty Hudson and Jocelyn Meyer. Hudson and Meyer both scored their first goals of the year.
South Carolina continued to dominate play in the second half as Gosnell put in her second goal at 46:51. Sarah Lentz scored her first goal of the season at 53:49 and Alison Jarrow added a goal at 56:25. Rounding out the last three goals for USC was Caddies who scored twice and Becca Epstein.
South Carolina will be back in action on Sun. afternoon Sept. 23, with a 2 p.m. match at Wofford. Carolina will then begin the SEC season on Sept. 30 at Florida.
