Columbia, SC – Led by Cally Plummer’s 16 kills and three service aces, the Gamecocks rolled past Wake Forest 3-0 at the Volleyball Competition Facility in Columbia today. Game scores were 30-17, 30-20, and 30-25. Next up for South Carolina is the SEC Tournament in Knoxville, TN on November 15-17. Pairings for the tournament will be released tomorrow.

The Gamecocks hit .333 while Wake Forest only hit .183. Nadia Sefferovich had 14 digs and hit .667 to help the Gamecocks. Carolina is now 18-4, 10-4 in the SEC while the Demon Deacons fall to 19-9, 10-6 in the ACC.

“Today I felt we played the way we have been practicing lately,” said Carolina Head Coach Kim Christopher. “We were relaxed and our defensive effort was good. Wake Forest is known as a very good defensive team and we wanted to outwork them defensively. We beat them in the digs category 45-30 and that is what we really wanted to do. We knew that if we could outplay them defensively, then we could do some really good things offensively as well.”

In game one, South Carolina jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead, capped off by a Sefferovich ace. Wake Forest was able to battle back and pulled within three to make the score 9-6, but Carolina once again took control with a 16-8 lead. The Demon Deacons were able to close the gap to make the score an 18-13 Carolina lead, but the Gamecocks quickly pulled away once again. Wake Forest was never able to get back into the game as Carolina took game one 30-17.

Game two started just like game one as South Carolina jumped out to a 10-4 lead. Wake Forest came back to cut the Carolina lead to four, but couldn’t stop a quick Carolina run that put the Gamecocks up 19-13. Wake Forest fought back to pull within four, but once again Carolina pulled away at the end to take game two 30-20.

In a game three that witnessed five lead changes, Wake Forest came out to a surprising 14-9 lead. Carolina pulled within two on a 3-0 run that topped off with a Sefferovich ace, but Wake Forest pulled away again. Carolina then battled back off of a 9-1 run that put them ahead 20-16. Both teams battled back and forth, but the Demon Deacons were not able to come back as Carolina won a tough game three 30-25.
