Athens, Ga. –
Despite winning the doubles point for the first time in SEC play this season, the Gamecocks were unable to pull of the upset bid against No. 1 Georgia on Friday.

South Carolina jumped on top early by winning two of three doubles contests, giving USC a 1-0 lead. Seth Rose and Carl Wermee paired to defeat to team of Adam Seri and Brandon Wagner 8-6. Ben Atkinson and David Nelson clinched the doubles point for the Gamecocks, rolling over Nicolas Boeker and Lesley Joseph 8-4.

Carl Wermee gained the lone USC victory in singles play, rallying to defeat Brandon Wagner 1-6, 6-1, 7-6. Sophomore, Marcus Westman, dropped a tight three-set contest against Bo Hodge by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, ending Westman’s 18 match winning streak.

South Carolina will close out the weekend with a Sunday afternoon contest at Tennessee. Play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
