Columbia, SC – The men’s and women’s South Carolina Track and Field teams continued to set the bar as they won a combined eight events at the USC Open Indoor Invitational at the Indoor Facility.

Mikisha Lewis, a sprinter for the Number one ranked South Carolina women’s track and field team, set a new Indoor Facility record for the 800 meter run with a time of 2:23.37. The previous record was 2:24.02 set by Diana Gillman of UNC-Charlotte in 1994. In the Women’s Triple Jump, Tangela Givens, competing unattached, jumped 40′ 6 1/4″ beating a mark of 32′ 3/4″ set by Danielle Slutzky of USC in 1994.

Khalilah Carpenter won the Women’s 55 meter dash with a time of 7.20 seconds. Teammate Sheneka Griffin placed fourth with a time of 7.26. Rachel Smith won the Women’s 1 Mile Run with a time of 5:37.46. Rachel Farabee placed third in the Pole Vault with a mark of 3.05 m.

On the men’s side, James Adkisson finished third in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.58. Trace Wilson finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.42 while Jarred Johnson won the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:27.02. Mark Howell won both the 800 meter run and the 1 Mile Run with times of 2:04.48 and 4:44.10, respectively. Fred Townsend (7.60) and Jarred Johnson (7.94) placed first and third in the 55-meter high hurdles race. The South Carolina men’s 4×400 meter relay won with a time of 3:38.21. Chris Vanderbrink placed second in both the Shot Put (15.07 m) and the Weight Throw (16.63 m).

The Gamecocks next meet is at the Meet of Champions in New York City on February 9th. They next host a meet February 16th as the Gamecock Indoor Invitational will be held at the Indoor Facility.
