Columbia, S.C. – Playing their final regular season home match of the year, the University of South Carolina men’s soccer team downed the Elon Phoenix 5-1 on senior day at Stone Stadium. South Carolina improves to 11-4-2, while Elon falls to 8-11.

The Gamecocks got on the board first with a line drive by Jordan Quinn at the 5:34 mark. Quinn knocked in the cross from senior Joey Worthen to give USC a 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes later, Elon tied the match with a goal by Brent McDowell. McDowell, scoring Elon’s lone goal of the match, slipped the ball past goalkeeper Michael Bachemyer.

A handball foul called on Elon would give Quinn his second goal of the match off the direct kick. Quinn, scoring his tenth goal of the season, ripped the ball into the left corner of the goal to give USC a 2-1 lead into halftime. South Carolina controlled the first half, outshooting the Phoenix 8-3.

In the second half, freshmen Kolby Runager, Udo Seidel Jr. and Anthony Stovall would each tally a goal for the Gamecocks. Runager, assisted by Dave Moore, tapped one in from three yards out. Seidel netted his first goal of the season at the 72:28 mark, while Stovall combined with Ryan Stocking for his second goal of the season.

USC dominated play outshooting Elon 22-7. Bachmeyer recorded one save, while Phoenix goalkeeper Paul Reuter posted five saves.

USC men’s soccer team travels to Miami, Fla. to face the Florida International Golden Panthers in their final regular season soccer match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
