The No. 20 South Carolina volleyball team will go outside of SEC play this weekend, when the Gamecocks face Wake Forest, on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Volleyball Competition Facility.

This will be the second meeting ever between South Carolina and Wake Forest. South Carolina defeated Wake Forest in 1983 in the first meeting between both schools. This is South Carolina’s second opponent from the ACC this season. South Carolina defeated Clemson, 3-1, on Oct. 10.

The Gamecocks are now finished with regular season play in the SEC. USC finished conference play with a 10-4 record and will compete against a conference opponent to be determined at the SEC Tournament. This year’s SEC Tournament will take place in Knoxville, TN on November 15-17, 2001. Carolina looks to fare better this year after being upset in the first round by Georgia 3-2.

Last weekend the Gamecocks wrapped up SEC regular season play as they defeated Georgia 3-0 and fell to #7 Florida 0-3. In Athens, led by 14 kills of the hot hand of Yajaira Cadet, USC defeated Georiga 30-25, 30-23, and 30-20. USC had five players in double digits in the kills category as USC hit .411 as a team, collected two aces, and a total of four team blocks. In Gainesville, Nadia Sefferovich led the Gamecocks with 10 kills but Carolina still dropped the match with scores of 22-30, 21-30, and 23-30. Carolina hit a team percentage of .150 while Florida hit .339. South Carolina finishes SEC regular season play with a record of 10-4 and look forward to the SEC Tournament on Nov. 15-17 in Knoxville, TN.

The November 11th match against the Demon Decons of Wake Forest is a make-up of an earlier scheduled match that was cancelled due to the national tragedy. The two teams were originally scheduled to meet at the Carolina Classic which was originally scheduled for September 14-15 in Columbia.
