Oxford, Ohio – Behind the offensive power of Niece Curry and Cally Plummer, the No. 21 South Carolina volleyball team defeated Miami 3-0 today to move to 5-0. Miami falls to 2-3. USC plays Illinois State tonight for the tournament title.
Game scores were 3-25, 30-23 and 30-18. USC hit .220 to Miami’s .035. USC had eight total team blocks to the Redhawks six and 52 digs to Miami’s 46.
Curry knocked down 13 kills, hitting .524 with one block solo and four block assists. Plummer swatted 13 kills with seven digs and a block assist. Berna Dwyer hit .333 with 10 kills and Megan Hosp added 40 assists, nine digs, three kills and two block assists.
Game one Miami went up three times by eight points each time. USC finally took its first lead late in the game, 25-24, on a Miami error. USC knocked down four of the five next points on kills by Curry, Plummer and two by Nadia Sefferovich. USC won game one 30-25 on a team block by Curry and Mariana Branquinho. USC hit just .021 to Miami’s -.082.
Game two USC took control of the match and took a 15-10 lead on an ace by Sefferovich. USC scored four straight points on kills by Sefferovich, Berna Dwyer and Curry, and added an ace by Hosp. USC won game two 30-23 on a Redhawk error.
USC went up 14-5 on a Plummer kill and then 17-8 on a Dwyer kill. USC took a 25-16 on a block solo by Nia Mackie and won the match 30-18 on a team block by Dwyer and Curry.
