Columbia, S. C. – The men’s soccer team extended its win streak to five after defeating the College of Charleston Cougars, 2-0, in front of 2,828 fans at Stone Stadium. South Carolina improves to 6-1, while the Cougars drop to 1-4-1.

USC fired first with a goal by Jordan Quinn. Quinn, scoring his sixth goal of the season, knocked in a ricocheted shot off the goal post by Jordan Smith. South Carolina dominated the first half, outshooting the Cougars 13-3. The Gamecocks would carry a 1-0 lead into the lockerroom at the half.

In the 74th minute, USC went up by two after Ray Fischer, scoring his first goal as a Gamecock, reached the back of the net. Smith and Herron were credited with the assist. Gamecock goalkeeper Michael Bachmeyer tallied two saves while registering his third shutout of the season.

The Gamecocks return to action when they hit the road for two tough, in-state, road matches this week. USC will take on the Furman Paladins on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. and the Clemson Tigers on Sunday, OCt. 7 at 2:00 p.m.
