Chapel Hill, NC – The 7th-ranked University of North Carolina Tarheels scored on the first shot of the game to beat No. 10 South Carolina tonight at Fetzer Field.
The Tar Heels got on the board at the 3:52 mark of the first half when David Testo received a pass from Chris Leitch 27 yards out. Testo let it run past him, took a touch and buried a low line drive past the diving Michael Bachmeyer for his ninth goal of the year.
The Gamecocks started to control the first half after fifteen minutes and had their best chance to equalize at the 30 minute mark when Tim Glowienka lofted a ball over a trapping CHapel Hill defense. Joey Worthen ripped a shot at the goal but it hit a diving Ueltschey in the chest.
South Carolina controled the second half, outshooting the Tar Heels 6-5 and having a Ryan Daley shot saved off the line at the 55 minute mark.
The Gamecocks return to action Sunday against Elon at 2 p.m. at Stone Stadium. It’s senior day for the Gamecocks.
