Columbia, S.C. – Former Gamecock Clint Mathis tallied two goals for the United States World Cup team in the 4-2 loss to Germany in the international exhibition match. Wednesday’s match took place in Rostock, Germany in front of 29,000 fans.

Mathis scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute when he netted the ball off his own rebound, giving the United States a 1-0 lead. Germany would go on to score four goals to win the match. Three of the four goals were scored in a seven-minute span.

In the 71st minute Joe-Max Moore connected with Mathis, shrinking Germany’s lead to two. Mathis has scored at least one point in each of his last six starts for the United States, dating back to March of last year. Mathis is coming back from a knee injury he suffered last June.

Joining Mathis on the U.S. World Cup team is Josh Wolff, a South Carolina alumni.
