BATON ROUGE, LA –
The South Carolina women’s golf team posted its best score of the tournament on Sunday by firing a 302, the best round by any team for the day. Auburn fired a 304 to win the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic. The Lady Gamecocks finished with a score of 911, holding off Vanderbilt for third place by two strokes.
Junior All-American Kristy McPherson and sophomore Adrienne Gautreaux led the Lady Gamecocks each finishing with a five-over 221 for the tournament and in a tie for fifth place. McPherson now has four top five finishes and Gautreaux now has two. Gautreaux fired a one-over 73 on Sunday,while McPherson fired a four-over 76.
The remaining of the Lady Gamecocks scoring was freshman Tiffany Catafygiotu (playing as an individual) fired a 79 on Sunday to finish with a 231 and in a tie for 19th place. Junior Kacy Thompson shot a 78 to finish with a 232 and in a tie for 22nd place, while sophomore Marci Robinson shot her best round of the tournament on Sunday firing a 76 for a 238 total and finished in 42nd place. Senior Reetta Laakkonen finished with a 77 on Sunday for a 242 total and finished in a tie for 48th place.
Auburn (893) was followed by LSU, who finished with an 895. South Carolina finished in third place holding off Vanderbilt who finished fourth, while Mississippi rounded out the top five.
Meredith Duncan of LSU won the individual competition firing a 73 on Sunday for a total of one-under par 215. Celeste Troche and Kingsley Barrett of Auburn finished in a tie for second with a score of 218. Danielle Downey also of Auburn finished in fourth place with a 220 while four players finished in a tie for fifth.
