The South Carolina women’s golf team remains in fifth place with a score of 299 in today’s second round action for a total of 604 at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia. Defending SEC Champion Kristy McPherson came back strong on Saturday with a score of two-under 70, putting her in a tie for 11th place. The Lady Gamecocks are 15 strokes back of Florida, who jumped into the lead with a round of 288.

McPherson leads USC with her two-day score of 149, but other Lady Gamecocks have put up good numbers as well. Sophomore Adrienne Gautreaux and junior Kacy Thompson shot a three-over 75, giving Gautreaux a 151 (T20th place) and Thompson a 152 (T25th place). Sophomore Marci Robinson fired a 79, while senior Reetta Laakkonen shot an 81 on Saturday, putting each in a tie for 40th place with a two-day score of 156.

Florida has a two-day total of 589 and leads Auburn, who had the best team score of the day (287) and has a score of 590 heading into Sunday’s final round. Gerogia is in third place with a 596, followed by Furman at 602 and South Carolina at 604. The Lady Gamecocks have a six stroke lead over Mississippi State.

Anna Gertsson of Mississippi State leads the individual competition for the second straight day, firing a round of two-under 70 for a total of 141 (three-under par). Jeanne Cho of Florida, who fired a weekend low 68, is in second with a total of 143, while Danielle Downey of Auburn (71) and Angela Jerman of Georgia (72) are in a tie for third place with a two-day score of 145. Diana Ramage of Auburn moved into fifth place with a round of two-under 70, for a two-day score of 146.

Sunday’s final round will be a shotgun start begining at 8:30am.
