Columbia, S.C. – Former Gamecock Clint Mathis scored the lone goal in U.S.A’s 1-0 win over Mexico on Wednesday, April 3. This marks Mathis’ seventh consecutive start in which he scored a goal or assist for the U. S. team.

Mathis’ game-winning goal in Wednesday’s match marked his seventh goal in the World Cup qualifiers. U.S. Head Coach Bruce Arena will name the roster for the U.S. team that will battle for the 2002 World Cup after an exhibition on Wednesday, April 17. Mathis is expected to make the cut and play a major role if the Americans are to advance.

Mathis is also plays in the MLS circuit with the New York/New Jersey Metro Stars.
