The South Carolina women’s golf team finished in 10th place with a three day total of 913, after firing a round of 302 Wednesday at the Spartan Invitational at San Jose State University. The Lady Gamecocks’ own All-American Kristy McPherson won the individual competition with a final round one-under 71 giving her a three day total of 211 (five-under par). This is Kristy’s second victory of the year, the other at the Dodge ACC/SEC Shootout in September.
The Lady Gamecocks had a tough field to compete with this week. Six of the nine teams ahead of the Lady Gamecocks were nationally ranked in the top 25, and two others were in the top 30.
In the team competition, California, who had a three day total of 886, held off Pepperdine and Washington by one stroke to win the tournament. Oklahoma State finished six strokes back at 892, while New Mexico State rounded out the top five with a total score of 893.
The rest of the Lady Gamecocks all fired rounds in the 70’s on Wednesday. Sophomore Adrienne Gautreaux fired a final round 76 to finish with a three day total of 234 and a tie for 45th place. Senior Reetta Laakkonen shot a 79 (235, T48th place), while junior Kacy Thompson (76, 237, 53rd place) and sophomore Marci Robinson (79, 239, T56th place) rounded out the field.
In the individual competition, McPherson held off Southern California’s Milaela Parmlid who finished at 213. Lindsey Wright of Pepperdine finished in third place with a score of 215, while Katherine Hull also of Pepperdine, and Becky Lucidi of Southern California finished in a tie for fourth at 217.
South Carolina will next compete in the Lady Gamecock Classic begining on March 15th.
