Columbia, S.C. – Three members of the University of South Carolina men’s soccer team were named to the NSCAA/adidas All-South Team. Joey Worthen was named first team All-South, while Ryan Daley and Tim Glowienka were named third team All-South. The Gamecocks posted a record of 12-5-2 for the 2001 season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
In 2001 Worthen posted six goals and five assists for 17 points at the forward position. Five of Worthen’s goals were game-winning goals, including the victories over No. 3 Furman, No. 24 North Carolina and No. 16 Davidson. Throughout the season, the senior forward from Salt Lake City, Utah received various honors for his efforts on the field, including being named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for Sept. 23 and was a member to the Gamecock Soccer Classic All-Tournament team. Worthen leaves South Carolina with a total of 26 goals and 15 assists.
Daley emulated his freshman year with another stellar season. In 2001 the sophomore from Modesto, Calif. was second on the team in points with 28, which is three points higher than last season. Daley tied his career high in goal with ten, while breaking his career high in assists with eight. Earlier this season Daley was named to the UCLA Invitational All-Tournament team.
Glowienka is a member of the Gamecock defense that posted a 1.07 goals against average for the 2001 season, including seven shutouts. In his third season on the Gamecock squad, the native of Oak Ridge, Tenn. started every match on the 2001 season. In his career, Glowienka has started all 57 matches. For his efforts in Los Angeles, Glowienka joined Daley on the UCLA All-Tournament team. USC shutout Cal State Fullerton and UCLA.
