The University of South Carolina women’s cross country won the South Carolina State Collegiate today in Clemson, S.C. USC posted 36 points while Maryland registered 63 and Clemson tallied 75.

Freshman Jenny Lake won the invitational with a time of 18:49. Senior Rachel Smith crossed the finish line at 19:03, finishing third. Closing out the top for the Gamecocks was Nikkie Campbell (7th), Criston Dailey (9th) and Kinsey Eschenburg (16th).

This marks the second time USC has defeated Clemson this season. The first time was at the Western Invitational where South Carolina won the team title.

“We had a great race,” commented Cross Country Coach Stan Rosenthal. “Everyone did real well. We ran a patient race. Jenny and Rachel took control, up front, after the first mile to help lead the team to victory.”
