Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team closed out the 2001-2002 season Saturday at the NCAA East Regional. USC shot a three-day score of 937 (301-307-329) to finish 25th in its seventh-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. Georgia Tech and Clemson tied for the team title with a three round score of 876. North Carolina finished third with 877, followed by Augusta State (885) and Virginia Commonwealth (891).

Freshman Alex Hamilton finished in a tie for 37th after firing 232 to lead the Gamecocks. Shooting the lowest round of the day for the Gamecocks, 77, Martin Rominger was second on the team in 87th. Posting a three round score of 235, Jonathan Jackson closed out the tournament in 94th. Matt Robinson and Nash Elliot finished in a tie for fourth for the Gamecocks with a total of 243. Elliot and Robinson placed 123rd.

Clemson Tiger D.J. Trahan won the individual title at six-under-par 210. Tar Heel Bob Cherry finished second while Georgia Southern’s Tyler McKeever placed third.

The NCAA East Regional marks the final tournament of the Gamecocks’ 2001-02 season.
