Columbia, S.C. – In the College Soccer News Preseason Poll released last week, the University of South Carolina is ranked 13th. Indiana University is picked No. 1, while Stanford is second, followed by St. John’s, Virginia and UCLA. The 2001 National Champions, North Carolina, are ranked sixth.

South Carolina plays five teams that are ranked in the Top 25, including No 6. North Carolina, No. 9 Clemson, No. 10 Furman, No. 11 Rutgers and No. 18 Wake Forest. The Gamecocks’ host Clemson on Oct. 6 and Furman on Oct. 27.

Men’s Soccer opens the 2002 season with an exhibition match against Appalachian State on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Stadium.
