Columbia, S.C. – The 13th ranked South Carolina men’s soccer kicked off the 2002 season with a 3-0 win against Appalachian State in an exhibition match under the lights of Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Gamecocks dominated the second half, scoring three goals. Senior tandem Jordan Quinn and Dave Moore combined for the first goal of the game in the 53rd minute. Quinn knocked in Moore’s pass from 15-yards out to give the Gamecocks a 1-0 lead.
In the 70th minute Moore tallied his second assist of the match when Robert Rosenberg headed in a corner kick from Moore. The final goal occurred at 83:31 when Ryan Deter won a one-on-one battle with Appalachian State goalkeeper Greg Brooks
South Carolina registered 17 shots, while Appalachian State was only able to fire five shots on goal.
USC opens the regular season at home on Friday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. against Charleston Southern.
