Columbia, S.C. – Following a 2-0 start to the 2002 season, the South Carolina women’s soccer team heads to Charlotte this weekend for the Puma Classic. USC will face host Charlotte on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will close out the tournament on Sunday at Noon vs. East Carolina.

South Carolina is ranked ninth this week in the NSCAA Southeast Region poll. Carolina will look for the team’s first victory against Charlotte. Carolina is 0-3 vs. the Charlotte 49ers. South Carolina and East Carolina will meet for the first time on Sunday.

Carolina and Charlotte last competed on the same field in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Charlotte came away with a 2-0 victory in South Carolina’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Charlotte earned its other two victories in the 1996 and 1997 seasons. Charlotte won the first contest in 1996 in Charlotte with a 4-3 win and earned a 4-0 win at South Carolina in the 1997 season.

Senior forward Morgan McIntyre scored a goal in each Gamecock victory this past weekend tying her for fourth place on the All-Time Gamecock Career Scoring List. The native of Greenville, S.C. has 49 points in her career at USC. McIntyre notched the game-winning goal for Carolina in Friday’s 3-0 win vs. Birmingham Southern and also scored once in the 3-0 win at Davidson.

South Carolina opens a three-game homestand Wednesday September 11 with a 7 p.m. home match vs. Clemson.
