Columbia, S.C.- The fifth-ranked South Carolina men’s soccer team remains undefeated as they hand New Hampshire its first loss of the season with a 1-0 victory tonight in the second match of the Gamecock Soccer Classic at Stone Stadium. South Carolina improves to 5-0 while New Hampshire falls to 4-1.
The match’s lone goal came in the second half came when senior Jordan Quinn scored off a header at the 75:21 mark. The goal was Quinn’s second game-winning goal of the season. J. C. Desriac was credited with the assist.
“It was a good, solid win for us off a team that came in undefeated,” commented Head Coach Mark Berson. “Our guys deserve a lot of credit tonight, for again, meeting a different kind of opponent and situation without getting frustrated.”
Wildcat Goalie, Mike Vignola, made six saves, while Gamecock Michael Bachmeyer tallied one. No. 10 Washington defeated the College of Charleston, 2-0, in the first match of the Gamecock Soccer Classic.
Day two of the Gamecock Soccer Classic begins on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 11:00 a.m. when the College of Charleston plays New Hampshire. The No. 5 South Carolina Gamecocks and No. 10 Washington Huskies will play for the championship at 1:30 p.m. South Carolina’s match will be broadcasted live on the internet at www.uscsports.com.
