COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Morgan McIntyre scored two goals, and senior Jess Julin added two assists as the South Carolina women’s soccer team defeated College of Charleston 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Stone Stadium. Carolina improves to 4-2 on the season and will next compete on Wed., Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. vs. Charleston Southern.
Carolina got on board twice in the first half with McIntyre and sophomore Ashley Williams each tallying goals for USC. Julin fed McIntyre who chipped a 20-yard shot to the left corner to beat Cougar goalie Emily Brenner for a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Julin found a driving Ashley Williams who beat Brenner to the right corner, increasing USC’s lead to 2-0.
The College of Charleston came with one goal in the second half as Becca Eddy scored off a set piece with a header to the right corner to bring the score to 2-1 at 74:23.
South Carolina answered at 86:10 as McIntyre scored her fifth goal of the season from the top of the box to beat new Cougar goalkeeper Alice Keeney. McIntyre and Julin each had five shots to lead the Gamecocks. South Carolina outshot the Bulldogs 21-7 in the match.
