Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore forward Ashley Williams earned SEC Player of the Week honors following two wins for the USC women’s soccer team this week, including a 1-0 overtime win vs. Florida on Sunday afternoon in which Williams scored the game-winning goal. Williams also scored a goal for USC in their 3-1 win at Furman on Tuesday night.

“I’m very happy for Ashley earning this honor,” said USC head coach Shelley Smith. “She has worked very hard the entire season to help our team and she deserves the recognition. She continues to be committed and dedicated and it is nice to see the rewards. Ashley represents the entire team’s effort and dedication that it takes to beat a team like Florida.”

In her second season at USC, Williams is second on the team in points (10) and goals scored (5) having played in all ten matches for Carolina with one start. Williams is currently 14th on the Gamecock All-Time Scoring List with 14 points. Williams owns three game-winning goals for USC this season. She is also the first Carolina player to earn the honor since former Gamecock forward Jennie Ondo in 1999.

The Gamecocks will continue SEC play this weekend on the road with matches at Kentucky and at Vanderbilt. Carolina’s match on Friday at Kentucky begins at 7:30 p.m.
