Chapel Hill, North Carolina – The South Carolina women’s golf team finished in eighth place at the Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Lady Gamecocks shot a team score of 303 Sunday for a tournament total of 902.
SEC Champion Kristy McPherson finished in a tie for fourth place after firing a four-over par 76 on Sunday for a total score of 219. This is McPherson’s first top five and her second top 10 finish of the season in only the Lady Gamecock’s second tournament of the 2002-03 year.
Junior Kory Thompson also shot a 76 on Sunday to finish with a total score of 226 and in a tie for 32nd place. Junior Adrienne Gautreaux recorded the best round of the day for the Lady Gamecocks with a 75 to finish with a 232 and in a tie for 45th place. The remaining of the Lady Gamecocks scoring was sophomore Tiffany Catafygiotu (playing as an individual only) with a 79 (233, 52nd place), senior Kacy Thompson with an 83 (234, T53rd place) and junior Marci Robinson with a 76 (238, T64th place.)
Defending National Champion Duke held off Oklahoma State by one stroke to win the team competition. Duke finished with a team score of 877, 13-over par. Ohio State finished in third place with an 888, holding of Tulane by one stroke. Tournament host North Carolina finished in fifth place with a team score of 890.
Liz Janangelo fired a three-over par 75 on Sunday, good enough to win the individual competition. Janangelo, who finished with a six-under par 210, held off teammates Kristen White who finished with a 212, and Allison Hanna of Ohio State, who finished with a 218. Kelly Anders of Kentucky and McPherson finished in a tie for 4th place with a score of 219.
The Lady Gamecocks will next compete in the Lady Palidin Invitational starting October 25th.
