Final Stats

Columbia, S.C. – Tricia McKee’s goal at 106:33 in the second overtime gave Georgia (7-7-1, 3-2 SEC) a 2-1 win over the South Carolina women’s soccer team (10-5, 3-3 SEC) on Friday evening at Stone Stadium. The Gamecocks return home on Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. No. 14 Tennessee. South Carolina will honor the senior class before Sunday afternoon’s match.

Carolina got on board first in the match at 52:47 as Melinda Carter scored her fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick. Carter was tripped up in the box by a Georgia defender resulting in a penalty kick.

The Bulldogs tied the match at 60:39 as Ashley King scored her seventh goal of the season for Georgia. Driving down the left side of the field, King sailed a shot from 30 yards out, high enough to get past Carolina goalkeeper Carolyn Ortega to knot the match at 1-1.

McKee’s goal in the second overtime came off a pass from Kara Kenney. Kenney’s cross found McKee who dribbled in and scored from five yards out to win the match. South Carolina outshot Georgia 17-14 in the match and Ortega finished with six saves on the evening. This evening’s match marks South Carolina’s first loss on the season when scoring the first goal of the match.
