Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels, 2-0, tonight at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Gamecocks drop to 10-7-1, while the Tar Heels improve to 13-5-1.

North Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Marcus Storey knocked in the ball from five yards out at the 37:29 minute mark. Storey was assisted by Ryan Kneipper and David Testo.

The match would go into halftime with North Carolina leading 1-0. Late in the second half, USC scored an own goal in the 86th minute when Mike Gell’s shot deflected off a Gamecock defender, giving the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead.

Gamecock goalkeeper recorded four saves, while Tar Heel goalkeeper Ford Williams recorded two. USC recorded eight shots on goal, but were unable to capitalize on them.

South Carolina wraps-up the 2002 regular season Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2:00 p.m. when they host the Golden Panthers of Florida International. The Gamecocks, who lead the series 2-0-1, won last year’s matchup, 5-4, in double overtime.

The Gamecock-Golden Panther showdown is also Senior Day. USC will honor the class of 2002 prior to kickoff. Sunday’s matchup is also father/son and youth league day. Every father/son tandem and youth league member will receive admission for $1.
