Four of the five Gamecock starters scored in double figures as South Carolina (9-1) got back on the winning track with a 57-39 victory over Temple (4-6).

Jocelyn Penn scored a game-high 16 points while Cristina Ciocan contributed 12. Petra Ujhelyi and Kelly Morrone chipped in 10 apiece in the victory. Kasia Roszak led all rebounders with nine boards in her 12 minutes of playing time. Temple was led by Ari More and Stacey Smalls’ 10 points.

South Carolina held Temple scoreless in the first five minutes and then put the game away in the last eight minutes of the first half with a 17-6 run to gain a 26-13 advantage going into halftime. Penn contributed eight points in the run.

USC held the Owls scoreless in the last 5:03 of the first half. The Gamecocks opened the second half with a 12-6 run and led by as many as 23 points in the last six minutes of the contest .

Temple shot only 25% from the field in the game and did not make a three-pointer in six tries.

It was the fifth straight defeat for the Owls the longest in Dawn Staley’s three years as coach.

Jocelyn Penn moved into 11th place on the South Carolina all-time scoring list with her 16 points, passing sister Annie Lester’s four-year total of 1,488 points. South Carolina returns to the court Sunday for a home Carolina Center battle with Alcorn state. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
