Athens, Ga. – The South Carolina men’s and women’s divers began the first day of competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational on Friday, with four divers competing in the finals. Sophomore Andy Bradley placed third on the one-meter board with a score of 640.75 and won the evening Bulldog Shootout on the one-meter. The “Bulldog Shootout” involves the top-six finishers from the 1-meter competition. Each diver performs one dive in Round 1, and the diver with the lowest score is eliminated. The same procedure takes place through five rounds, and the final diver remaining is the shootout champion.
In addition to Bradley, three members of the USC women’s team competed in the finals of the three-meter competition. Sophomore Tracy Richardson finished third (500.35), sophomore Lauren King fifth (490.95) and sophomore Allison Brennan ninth (453.40). No team competing in the competition placed more divers in the Top 12 on the women’s side then USC.
Also competing for USC on the men’s side was sophomore Dean Emmerton who finished in 13th place, just missing out on a finals spot with a score of 263.50. Freshman Ian Balman finished 25th with a score of 217.00.
The Georgia Diving Invitational will continue Saturday with the women’s one-meter and the men’s three-meter prelims at 11 a.m. followed by the women’s one-meter Bulldog Shootout and the men’s three-meter finals at 6 p.m.
