Columbia, S.C. – The No.22 ranked men’s tennis teamed opened the 2003 dual match season with victories over Winthrop and College of Charleston on Saturday. The Gamecocks will return to the courts on February 9th to take on Charlotte and Davidson.

The Gamecocks shutout Winthrop 7-0 to open the day. In doubles, the teams of Tom Eklund/Marcus Westman, Ben Atkinson/Angelo Niculescu, and Geraldo Knorr/Seth Rose all claimed victories. South Carolina also swept singles play with victories from Angelo Niculescu, Seth Rose, Marcus Westman, Tom Eklund, Ben Atkinson and Geraldo Knorr.

In the afternoon contest, the Gamecocks followed two more doubles victories to their second win of the day. After taking the early 1-0 lead, South Carolina used singles victories from Seth Rose, Angelo Niculescu, Marcus Westman, Geraldo Knorr, and Tom Eklund close out the 6-1 win.

South Carolina’s men’s tennis team will be back in action next Sunday when they travel to Davidson to face Charlotte and Davidson.
