No. 20 Gamecocks Sweep Doubleheader

Columbia, S.C. – The No.20 ranked South Carolina men’s tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season with victories over Davidson and Charlotte on Sunday. The Gamecocks return home to face North Carolina State on February 15th.

The Gamecocks earned their second shutout of the season against Charlotte, winning 7-0. The Gamecocks won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, South Carolina’s Marcus Westman and Tom Eklund defeated Charlotte’s Marlo Santoso and David Bolin. In number two doubles, South Carolina’s Seth Rose and Carl Wermee were victorious, 8-4, over Charlotte’s Jonathan Clark and Christofer Boman. Angelo Niculescu, Seth Rose, Marcus Westman, Tom Eklund, Ben Atkinson, and Geraldo Knorr all earned singles victories to cap the shutout win.

In the afternoon contest, the Gamecocks swept doubles matches to pace the 6-1 win. After taking the early 1-0 lead, South Carolina used singles victories from Seth Rose, Angelo Niculescu, Carl Wermee, Geraldo Knorr, and Ben Atkinson close out the contest.

South Carolina’s men’s tennis team will be back in action next Saturday against North Carolina State at the Sam Daniel Tennis Center.
