Feb. 26, 2003

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team kicks off the spring 2003 season this weekend in Humacao, Puerto Rico in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. This is the first of six tournaments for Lady Gamecocks this spring, not including a possible NCAA Championships bid.

The Lady Gamecocks will be sending five players to this weekend’s tournament. The list includes: senior All-American Kristy McPherson, senior Kacy Thompson, junior Adrienne Gautreaux, junior Marci Robinson, and sophomore Tiffany Catafygiotu.

This spring season is the last for two-time SEC Champion Kristy McPherson. McPherson is the two-time individual medalist of the SEC Championships and have been a fixture for the Lady Gamecocks since her freshman year and has a career stroke average of 74.46. She holds three individual records at USC, and looks to continue to break school records this spring.

The Lady Gamecocks are the defending SEC Champions and will not only look for a second straight SEC title, but will look to return to the NCAA Championships for a third straight year.
