Humacao, Puerto Rico – The South Carolina women’s golf team is in fourth place after one round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Humacao Puerto Rico. USC fired a 303 Friday and trails eighth ranked Texas and second ranked Oklahoma St. by just one shot and fifth ranked Duke by 12 strokes. Duke shot a three-over par 291 and leads the field by 11 shots.
The Lady Gamecocks have two players in the top 11 after the first round. Junior Marci Robinson is in a tie for fifth place after firing a one-over par 73 Friday and trails the leader by just three strokes. Defending SEC champion Kristy McPherson recorded at two-over par 74 and is currently tied for 11th place.
Junior Kacy Thompson is in a tie for 23rd place after firing a four-over par 76. Junior Adrienne Gautreaux shot an eight-over par 80 and stands in a tie for 58th place. Sophomore Tiffany Catafygiotu wraps up the Lady Gamecocks scoring with a 10-over par 82 and is currently in a tie for 67th place.
Duke leads the field with a 291 followed by Texas and Oklahoma St. who are tied for second with a team score of 302. The Lady Gamecocks currently stand in fourth place with a 303, while 17th ranked Florida and 22nd ranked Georgia stand in fifth place with a team score of 304.
V. Nirapathpongporn of Duke and Lisa Ferrero of Texas are tied for first place in the individual field after recording a two-under par 70. Jennifer Karr of Oklahoma St. is in third place with a one-under par 71, while N. Aazam-Zanganeh of Duke stands in fourth place with a score of even-par 72. Robinson joins five others in a tie for fifth place.
The second round will begin Friday afternoon and the final round will be played on Saturday.
