Columbia, S.C. – Kristy McPherson was named SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week for her performance at last weekend’s Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

McPherson, the two-time defending SEC Champion, finished in a tie for second place after firing a two-under-par 70 in the tournament’s final round, the low score of the day. The senior from Conway, S.C., finished with scores of 74-74-70 for a total of 218, two-over-par. Her finish in Puerto Rico was her third top-five finish and fourth top-ten finish of the season.

A two-time first-team All-American, McPherson leads the SEC with a 73.53 stroke average. She ranks 14th nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Women’s Individual Golf Rankings, the fourth-highest ranking among SEC golfers.

The Lady Gamecocks, ranked No. 20 in the nation, finished seventh in Puerto Rico, just one stroke out of the top five. USC returns to action when they host the 2003 Lady Gamecock Classic, March 14-16, at The University Club in Blythewood, S.C.
