Post Game Quotes

South Carolina Head Coach Dave Odom

“It was a disappointing loss. It was a great effort. We executed well and we expected to win. It certainly wasn’t for lack of opportunities. Maybe we’re not at the point yet where we can cash in on something like this.”

“We only hit seven of 25 three-point shots. We need to hit more than that if we shoot that many, and that is way too many. We rebounded the ball well, better than we have here of late.”

“I thought Jim Harrick made a key substitution when he put in [Richard] Wehunt. I told our players he wasn’t put in there to play defense. You go to a player like that so he can score and stop the bleeding. He hit two big three-pointers for them. Another key basket was Rashad Wright’s three-pointer up top against our zone. We were dying for a basket down the stretch. They were packed in their zone daring us to shoot.”

“Carlos Powell got caught up top against a guard near the end, and you don’t want that to happen. Jarvis Hayes is certainly a terrific player, as is Chris Daniels and Steve Thomas. Rashad White only makes baskets when they need them.”

“What our four seniors have done is greatly appreciated by us all.”

Georgia Head Coach Jim Harrick

“You have to play fast, medium, and slow. It was a grinding game. Richard Wehunt got us back in the game. My players don’t foul on three’s. They know that if they foul on three-point shots, they are running.”

About the SEC Tournament: “You are going to need some bodies and legs if you are going to play four nights in a row. I think that it [the format] is interesting. I think that it is something that the conference needs to take a look at. We have the third-best record in the league (11-5), yet we do not get a first-round bye. Mississippi State is 9-7 in conference play and they get a first-round bye.”

On the NCAA Investigation: “We have put this behind us and we are focusing on nothing but basketball. It is kind of a shame that this has happened. This team is a great group of guys. This situation has bonded them.”
