LAS VEGAS, N.V. – The No. 14 South Carolina men’s tennis team improved to 11-1 on the season by defeating UNLV 6-1 on Wednesday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Gamecocks swept doubles matches before winning five of six singles victories to clinch the match.
In doubles matches the teams of Carl Wermee/Seth Rose, Geraldo Knorr/Angelo Niculescu, and Ben Atkinson/Tom Eklund all recorded wins to pace the Gamecocks to an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, USC made quick work of positions 4-6 as Carl Wermee, Ben Atkinson and Geraldo Knorr used straight wins to clinch the match. Seth Rose also recorded a victory for the Gamecocks at the No. 1 position by a score of 6-3, 7-6. No. 59 Angelo Niculescu improved to 12-0 in dual match play with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No.2 for USC.
Next up for South Carolina will be a road contest again SEC foe Kentucky on Sunday. The Gamecocks next home match will be on March 26th against Clemson.
