Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina opened its outdoor schedule with the Weems Baskin Relays. Field events highlighted the first day of the two-day event in Columbia as USC won eight events on the afternoon.

Garry Martin won the men’s javelin with a throw of 60.81m, a mark that qualifies him for the NCAA Regional Meet in May. Greig Cryer also emerged victorious, winning the triple jump with a mark of 14.77.

Cheryl Terrio won the women’s pole vault with a mark of 3.35m and teammate Rachel Farabee placed second.

USC placed first and second finishers in the women’s triple jump as Rhashida Abdul-Malik took first with a mark of 12.56m and Kemesha Whitmire was second with a mark of 12.12m.

Mamee Groves won the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 48.94 and Katie Desin won the javelin with a throw of 38.45m.

Both the USC men’s and women’s teams won the 4×300 relays. The men won with a time of 2:13.79 while the women ran a time of 2:32.29. The women placed second in the 800m sprint medley by running a time of 1:43.24.

The Weems Baskin Relays resume on Saturday, March 22. Day two of the meet begins with field events at 11 a.m.
