Gainesville, Fla. – South Carolina’s Fred Townsend leads the decathlon while Antoinette Wilks sits in second place in the pentathlon after day one of the Florida Relays in Gainesville.

Townsend leads the decathlon after the first day of competition with 3,988 points over 100 points ahead of the field. The junior used victories in three events – the 100m dash (11.03), the high jump (2.16m/7-1.00 ft.) and 400m dash (49.21) to propel him into the top spot.

USC’s Greg Royster is in sixth place in the decathlon while teammates Garry Martin and Ben Yocum are 18th and 23rd.

Wilks is in second place in the pentahlon with 3,188 points. The senior won both the 200m hurdles (13.84) and the 200m dash (24.62). Teammate Chelsea Hammond won the high jump with a mark of 1.79m/5-10.50 and currently stands in 7th place in the event.
