Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Gamecocks played in the Mountain State Collegiate Invitational event in Bluefield, West Virginia over the weekend. The Gamecocks lost to University of Michigan on Saturday 1-3 and tied University of Virginia 1-1 on Sunday.

Michigan opened the scoring in the second half of Saturday’s game, but USC’s Jack Cummings equalized minutes later. The wolverines scored two unanswered goals later in the half for the final result.

Cummings scored again against Virginia midway through the second half. The Cavaliers equalized minutes later and the final result stood at 1-1.

“This tournament gave us another look at our team on the road against opponents we don’t regularly get a chance to play in our region. I was very proud of the way we responded in the Virginia game. That was the final game of a stretch of five games in 10 days with only twelve available field players and two goalkeepers. A number of our players are carrying injuries of some degree and they really had to dig deep this weekend to play.”

The Gamecocks complete their spring schedule with the annual Alumni Game on Saturday, April 12 at home at 2:00 p.m.
