April 25, 2003

Two South Carolina players will tune in to ESPN2 today at 1:00 p.m. to find out where they’ll be playing this summer. USC seniors Jocelyn Penn and Petra Ujhelyi are expected to be drafted in the first round Friday of the 2003 WNBA Draft.

Originally scheduled for April 18th, the WNBA Draft was pushed back while the league and the players association battled on a new contract.

Last year, the Gamecocks produced two draft picks with Shaun Gortman selected by Charlotte with the ninth overall pick and Teresa Geter going to Washington in the second round. Gortman was traded to Minnesota later that day and saw valuable playing time during her rookie season. Geter was released before the regular season began.

Currently, South Carolina has two players in the WNBA; Gortman and Shannon Johnson.
