Aleen Bailey is a seven-time All-American and is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation in both the 100m and 200m dash. She is the only USC athlete to have been twice named SEC Athlete of the Week in 2003, once indoors and once outdoors. In April, Bailey won the Tony Wilson Memorial Award as the most outstanding performer at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.

Bailey is a co-captain and ran the anchor leg on the 2002 USC Women’s 4×100 NCAA Champion team. The senior has a career best time of 11.14 in the 100m dash and 22.54 in the 200m dash.

The Jamaica native recently sat down for a Q&A with USCSports.com.

1. Who inspired you?
My mom and Coach Frye because they gave me words of encouragement.

2. What is your most memorable USC track moment?
When we won the outdoor team National Championship last season.

3. What are your goals for this year?
I am focusing on getting my classes done and raising my GPA. I also would like to win the 100 and 200 at Nationals.

4. Where do you see yourself 20 years from now?
Being a mom, married and having a nice job.

5. Do you have any goals after college?
I want to see if I can go profession and prepare for the Olympics.

6. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not running?
I enjoy spending time with my fiance? and my friends. I also like to talk to my mom and cook.

7. What’s you favorite thing about being a Gamecock?
Being a Gamecock means everyone looks out for you and it is family oriented.

8. Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
Donavan Bailey and Merlene Ottey.

9. What sport would you play if you were not in track?
Soccer.

10. Why did you choose USC?
Because of Coach Frye. He focuses on academics and making sure we graduate.

11. What’s your favorite thing about Coach Frye?
He’s like a Dad.

12. What’s one word that describes you?
Unique.

13. You were recently named SEC Athlete of the Week for the second time, how does that feel?
I am proud of myself and Coach. If it were not for him I would not have been able to achieve that honor.
