The University of South Carolina women’s golf team recorded a three-over-par 287, the second-lowest round of the day, on Friday to move up to sixth place in the 2003 NCAA East Regional at the Salem Glen Country Club (par 71, 6,116 yards) in Clemmons, North Carolina.

The Gamecocks are sixth with a two-day total of 590, 22-shots-over-par, with Saturday’s final round still to be played. Only nine shots separate the number two through eight teams with the top eight squads receiving bids to continue in the NCAA Championships later in May. Duke shot a 286 for the low round of the day and remains the leader after two rounds with a total score of 574 (six-over-par).

All-American Kristy McPherson and Furman’s Brandi Jackson remain tied after the second day of competition. But the duo sank to second place as they both posted even par (71) days on the course and trail North Carolina’s Meaghan Francella by one stroke. McPherson’s 71 on Friday marked her 13th par-or-better round of golf in 26 outings this season.The two-time SEC Medalist recorded three birdies in second round play.

Junior Marci Robinson shot a career-low round of 70 on Friday to jump into a tie for 44th place at nine-over. Adrienne Gautreaux is tied for 52nd place at 10-over-par after shooting a 72 today. Kacy Thompson recorded a 74 to push her to 12-over-par for the tournament and in a tie for 65th place. Tiffany Catafygiotu recorded an 82 on Friday, after opening the Regional with a 75, and is tied for 77th place. The sophomore was two-over after 12 holes but suffered a triple bogey, two double bogeys and another bogey to finish her second round.

South Carolina returns on Saturday for the final day at the East Regional with a 12:30 tee time.
