Columbia, S.C. – After the conclusion of the Spring 2003 semester, the men’s golf team led the South Carolina’s men’s teams with the highest grade point average. The men’s golf team combined for a 3.33 GPA, which is the highest GPA for the golf program in the past seven years. Five of the Gamecocks made the South Carolina Deans List: Martin Rominger (3.9), Eirik Johansen (3.8), Jake Thompson (3.7), Matt Robinson (3.6) and West Streib (3.5).

Earlier this year, the Gamecocks placed eight members on the 2003 SEC Academic Honor Roll, three more than any other school. Current Gamecocks making the 2003 honor roll are Nash Elliot, Alex Hamilton, Jason Huguet, Matt Robinson, West Streib and Jake Thompson. Matt Giffin and Lee Taylor were members of last years squad that also earned academic honors. The 2003 SEC Men’s Golf Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2001-02 calendar.

For the entire 2002-03 academic year, the men’s golf team finished second with a cumulative grade point average of 3.245.
